Job Description: BGIS ITS has a unique service relationship with commercial customers that have a national presence. Our commercial technicians conduct regularly scheduled maintenance, demand service requests, repair services and equipment changeouts at locations in and around their states. Work is coordinated with our support team that includes, dispatchers/coordinators, supervisors and additional technical resources, all designed to ensure our techs have the resources they need to complete their job safely and efficiently. Our technician team is provided with a fully stocked service van, iPad, iPhone and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Primary Qualifications: 3-5 years of Commercial HVAC experience (Chiller experience would be beneficial) Position is performed remotely; however, may require travel/driving to client locations for training, meetings and other in-person events. Hold a valid certification to provide HVAC services in the State in which the work is performed. Responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices that comply with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health safety, security, and fire protection. Flexibility to work overtime / weekends as needed with some travel required. Physical Requirements: climb and descend ladders while carrying up to 30 lbs., lift up to 75 lbs. and maneuver in confined spaces i.e., crawlspaces, attics, etc. EPA Certification required. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements. Subject to drug, background, and driver’s license checks Skills Service and install new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Service and install new ice machines. Do routine maintenance on ice machines and refrigeration. Assess and troubleshoot commercial HVAC to determine required repairs. Inspect and perform equipment repair and replacements. Perform routine preventative maintenance and recommend preventative repairs to avoid unplanned downtime. Respond to emergency service requests. Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical conditions and deficiencies and provides recommendations for enhancement and repair. Participates in and assists with facility-related projects. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures. Able to work on lite commercial equipment. Excellent customer service skills Completes paperwork in a timely manner. Reports to job assignment and work in a timely manner Ability to work with minimal supervision. Experience with industry software preferable but not required.

BGIS is currently seeking a Safety Technician to join the team in Pompano Beach, FL and surrounding areas.

The Safety Technician creates processes to report health, safety, and environment (HSE) metrics. The position develops, recommends, and financially justifies HSE activities and risk strategies. The Safety Technician demonstrates BGIS values in communications with clients and team members. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Focus

  • Support the management, coordination, purchasing, and distribution of safety, environmental, and emergency response supplies, tools, and equipment. 
  • Assist with program facilitation to monitor and improve HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) performance. 
  • Provide input into the formatting and development of health, safety and environmental programs and related materials and maintain a reference library along with web pages holding the program content. 
  • Perform hazard/ risk assessments, job walks, and inspection in both critical facilities environments and construction areas. 
  • Promote the implementation/rollout of programs, policies, and procedures to enable compliance, injury reduction and sustainable management system elements. 
  • Bolster the implementation and maintenance of the facility’s Hazard Identification and Risk Management Standard. 
  • Coordinate and track required training to ensure site remains in compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and standards. 
  • Attend all required company and client meetings. 
  • Develop and distribute site health, safety, and environmental reports, KPIs (key performance indicators), and metrics. 
  • Act as point of contact for all HSE incidents, investigations, and RCA’s. 
  • Coordinate emergency response plans, drills, and procedures. 
  • Monitor vendor performance and compliance to their procedures and regulatory requirements and complete a monthly contractor HSE evaluation. 
  • Contribute to the completion of other key initiatives as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, or equivalent work experience.
  • One year of experience managing the rollout or improvement of health, safety and environmental programs in critical environments or construction projects. 
  • Preference for or working towards HSE professional certification such as, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) (Construction Health and Safety Technician), OHST (Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician), etc. 
  • Proven experience researching federal regulations 29 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) 1910 and 1926.
  • Knowledge of RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) Hazardous Waste, Universal Waste, and Title V regulations. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function as an individual contributor and function to teamwork. 
  • Problem Solving skills to review options and select appropriate resolution. 
  • Time Management focuses on balancing multiple responsibilities and work activities. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Visio. 
Preferred Qualifications 

  • Three (3) years of experience performing safety and environmental inspections in critical environments or construction projects.
  • OSHA-30 Certification
  • HAZWOPER 40 Certification
  • Certified Safety Trained Supervisor
  • Certified Associate Safety Professional
