Job Description for Electrical/HVAC Service Technician
· Primary focus: Electrical Service with the ability to cross-train in HVAC
- As an Electrical/HVAC service technician, you will need to diagnose and repair electrical, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems while leading customers to informed and confident buying decisions for new and current Electrical and HVAC systems. This role also requires preventative maintenance to address any issues before they result in additional repairs or replacements.
Responsibilities for Electrical/HVAC Service Technician
- Maintain and repair electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and equipment.
- Inspect the effectiveness and safety of the current customer’s Electrical and HVAC system.
- Ask proper lifestyle questions to troubleshoot electrical, heating, and cooling system malfunctions.
- Perform routine maintenance on Electrical and HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance including general HVAC in-home service calls.
- Diagnose HVAC systems for electrical and mechanical defects.
- Clean, adjust, and repair systems, and perform warranty services.
- Explain replacement opportunities for aging, inefficient, or underperforming Electrical and HVAC systems.
- There may be some opportunity or overlap for installation of Electrical and HVAC systems, but the primary function of this role is service focused.
- Ensure jobs are properly staged; sign off on job quality checklist.
- Show yourself as professional and knowledgeable to win new referrals and repeat business.
- Develop a proven track record in electrical, heating, and cooling systems including the ability to draw simple diagrams and read blueprints and other diagrams.
- Establish customer rapport to sell the right products and services.
- Educate and assist customers in choosing the best finance options and maintenance plans.
- Understand your service criteria and hold yourself accountable for exceeding revenue goals.
- Adhere to the company’s plan for resolving customer complaints quickly and favorably.
- Work alongside customer service and dispatch to ensure overall success of the business.
- Maintain a clean, organized job site and well inventoried truck.
- Participate actively in all training exercises, morning meetings, trade shows and retreats.
- Train and mentor apprentices to ensure quick, accurate repairs and installations.
- Be accurate and timely with invoices, timecards, curbside feedback and option sheets.
Desired Skills and Experience for Electrical/HVAC Service Technician.
- Knowledge of local Electrical and HVAC codes and ability to make on-the-job applications.
- Continued education and training to obtain NATE certification if desired.
- Minimum 3 years of applicable experience.
- Driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Professional appearance, strong work ethic, and great attitude.
- Highly organized with exceptional follow-through abilities.
- High integrity with advanced social skills and the ability to make solid connections.
- Strong desire to be a better technician tomorrow than you are today.
